Taha Whanau: NZSL

NZ Sign Language Wk 2020

Kia Ora and welcome back to my blog, this week is New Zealand Sign Language week. The topic that goes with Sign Language is 'Sign language is for everyone!'.
This week is to acknowledge the deaf people and those who help teach them sign language and ways to communicate to others. It is important to never make fun of people who have trouble hearing because they are the tough ones who learn sign language so that they can talk and introduce them to others.

Task Description: Today in our Te Whare Tapa Wha work, I am focusing on Taha Whanau. As it is Sign Language week, for our activity we had to record ourselves introducing our names in NZSL Alphabet /Fingerspelling. Learning NZ sign language helps us make a better connection with friends and whanau who are deaf or hard of hearing. In this video I started off by saying Good Morning and introduced my name by saying My Name is Hannah! This was a really educational and fun activity to do.

Taha Wairua Poster!!!

Taha Wairua

Greetings to all and welcome back to my blog. Today we did another Whare Tapa Wha activity, we chose to do Taha Wairua (Spiritual Health). For our task today we had to create another poster but this time we had to show three things that can help us with our Taha Wairua. The things I listed were:

  1. Listening to happy and calming songs
  2. Doing Meditation
  3. Praying
There are much more things that I can think of as well. You can also read the bible and give a gift to someone. Doing things like this will help strengthen your Wairua in no time you don't want to end up as a sad or useless person sitting at home as your Taha Wairua slowly breaks down. I encourage everyone to do these listed things so that their Taha Wairua stays alright.

Taha Tinana- Exercise poster

Taha Tinana

Today for our Te Whare Tapa Wha work we mainly focused on Taha Tinana which is about looking after our Physical Health. For our activity we had to create an exercise poster. To make it we had to take photos with buddies or by yourself doing 4 different exercises. I did this activity with my friends Mele and Central, the exercises we did were:
  1. Running on the spot
  2. Squats
  3. Star Jumps
  4. Arm Warm Ups
There are different types of levels that you can do for your comfort zone:
  1. Easy
  2. Hard
  3. Extreme
Hopefully everyone can do this to help strengthen their Taha Tinana, doing fitness work really helps your body to stay fit and healthy. I encourage everyone to do exercises in their free time to live a happy life staying fit and healthy

Taha Hinengaro: Things I'm good at!

Taha Hinengaro: Things I'm good at!

Task description: Malo e lelei and welcome back to my blog, today we did another Te Whare Tapa Wha activity. This time we looked back on Taha Hinengaro which is all about our own mind, heart, conscience, thoughts and feelings. It is also about how we feel individually as well as how you communicate and think. For our activity today, first we had to take a photo of ourselves and place in onto a google drawing. After that we had to come up with things that we are good at and place it around the photo of yourself. This helped us by feeling and thinking much better, this can also help us by gaining more confidence. ENJOY

Taha Whanau!!

TAHA WHANAU!!!

Today Room 3 decided to reflect back into our Te Whare Tapa Wha work, the one we were focusing on is Taha Whanau. If you forgot what Taha Whanau is, it is all about your family and friend relationships. The task today was using Avatar Creator we had to create our members of our family or our bubble. Once we finished our avatars we had to write next to them things they do in our bubble. It could be their roles, chores or the things they do, in my family we all get a share of chores we have to do each day. There is no one that does nothing in my bubble, we all do important things. ENJOY!

Taha Tinana- Fitness & Hygiene

Taha Tinana- Fitness & Hygiene

Our physical bodies need to stay fit and clean.
Our families and homes are where we learn the basic BUT important steps for this

Here are 5 examples of what happens in my family.
  1. My Mum makes sure that my siblings and I sleep early for school the next day so that we have enough sleep and we pay good attention in our school work
  2. My family pushes each other to go for walks, runs and exercises at least 2 times each day
  3. My Aunties and Uncle goes to the gym mostly at night to stay fit and healthy
  4. We have to brush our teeth, brush our hair, dress nicely for school, outings or parties
  5. We all have to shower once we come back from school, from exercises, if we feel stinky or gross. (It is no option of missing showering at least a day per week, you should shower each day of the week to stay clean and healthy)

Grateful- Taha Hinengaro

Grateful- Taha Hinengaro!

Having the action to be grateful  to others is  very important in your everyday life. It means showing or feeling an appreciation for something done or recieved. My mum always taught me and my siblings to be grateful when people gave us gifts for birthday parties and christmas presents, because it's always the thought that counts.
'Start each day with a grateful heart'.

Here are 5 things that I am grateful for today.
  1. The roof over my head
  2. The wonderful and caring family I have and see everyday
  3. My Teacher at school because she teaches our class new stuff each day
  4. The food provided for me on the kitchen table
  5. The amazing best friends I have at school that look out for me everyday when I go to school
Have an attitude of gratitude!

Taha Whanau

Te Whare Tapa Wha: Taha Whanau

Walt: List 3 things I did with my whanau during the weekend!

  1. On Saturday Afternoon we celebrated my Nana and my Mum's birthday, we also invited my auntie and my other cousins and we all had a great time eating, watching the rugby game and making fun videos
  2. On Sunday morning we had our lotu together as a family
  3. My cousins, siblings and Aunty went for a nice walk along the beach and around the block
Spending time with my family is the best and the most important thing to me in the world. Even if it's like cleaning, walking, eating or getting into trouble together we always have a great time together.

Taha Wairua

Taha Wairua

Why do  we do this every morning? : Karakia, Mihi, Himene?

Welcome back blog readers, so today for our Te Whare Tapa Wha work, we were looking into Taha Wairua. Mrs Tele'a challenged us by working in groups or pairs and answering this question: Why do  we do Karakia, Mihi, Himene every morning?  As a class with each of our ideas this is what we came up with:
  • To connect to Atua, greater power source
  • Connect- Remember our ancestors, Whanau
  • Know where we are from
  • Build confidence to speak and represent ourselves and whanau
  • To get ready for the day and as well as our future
  • To grow closer to God and Jesus
Here is a photo of my group Tatia and Trinity so make sure to check out their blogs as well.
Here is my group!! :)

Taha Hinengaro

Taha Hinengaro Challenge!!

Here is a photo of me meditating
Hello blog readers and welcome back to my blog. Today in Te Whare Tapa Wha, we were looking into Taha Hinengaro (Taking care of your mental health, emotions).  So today Nina Challenged us to do a Taha Hinengaro Challenge, in that challenge we had to Sit quietly, close our eyes, breathe gently and meditate for 3-5 minutes. Here are some ways you could clear your mind.
  • Meditate and clear you mind
  • Pray by your self
  • Listen to relaxing music
  • Have some  alone time
  • Lay down on your bed
  • Read a book
  • Get off any technologies and go for a walk or hike
  • Write down your thoughts on a journal
  • Sing some hymns
  • Talk to a friend, adult, sibling
These are all ways to help clear your mind because they are all things you can try on your own and doing things by your self will give you that boost in life, so that you can relax and get on with your life. Doing these things during your life will definitely help balance your Taha Hinengaro Powers. I really think that everyone should try this Challenge. Good Luck Everyone.

Taha Tinana Challenge!!

Hello blog readers and welcome back, over the past few weeks we have been learning about Te Whare Tapa Wha and it's elements: Taha Whanau, Tinana, Hinengaro and Wairua. We look at each element on different days, so today we are looking at Taha Tinana which is our Physical Health. For our Taha Tinana Challenge, Fonua Challenged all of us to do push ups for 1 minute, to see how much we can do. I did this challenge with my best friend Mele, but instead of push ups we did BURPEES. Wow what a challenge that was. After doing this challenge I feel very Fit, Healthy and happy for doing this wonderful challenge, I encourage all of you guys to do this with a partner or even yourself. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!

Taha Whanau Challenge

Taha Whanau Challenge

Today, for inquiry we have been learning and researching about Te Whare Tapa and it's 4 key elements: Taha Hinengaro, Wairua, Tinana and Whanau. Today for Monday's work we are focusing on Taha Whanau and building our Healthy Relationships. By doing this Kahurangi challenged all of us to make a memory poster of someone in our family like Grandparents, parents or even aunties and uncles. We had to put information on our poster like what their favourite food, sport is, where they grew up and their happiest memories and what
their advice is for us growing up.
Here is my poster of my Grandma
 I made for this challenge.

Taha Wairua- Spiritual wellbeing

Today for our study on Te Whare Tapa Wha we are looking at Taha Wairua.

This is to do with our spiritual well being. There are many ways people show Taha Wairua. We
talked about this and came up with this list:

  • People pray in public and in Private
  • Some people dress in a certain way to show their spiritual well being- what they believe in
  • Read and live by a certain set of guidelines : Bible, Quran etc
  • Signs or symbols made  with their hands , in jewellery, clothing etc
What other ways can you thing of?

Today our activity was to create a card to bless another person from our bubble, to make their spirit their Taha Wairua' stronger. The card I made  today for someone in my bubble was my hardworking and loving Mum. She does every thing for me and my siblings to keep us happy and safe. Here is the card I have started on.

5 Things I'm Grateful for

I'm Grateful for..

1. The roof over my head because some people hardly have shelter so I'm lucky to even have a house
2. The food provided for me and my family because some homeless people go on for days without  food so I must be grateful to eat what I get.
3. The caring family I have because some people grew up without being in a family, but I'm definitely grateful to grow up in a loving and caring family that is always there for me whenever I need them the most.
4. The loyal friends I have at school because they play with me at lunch and always cheers me up when I'm sad or unwell.
5. The loving and hardworking teachers at my school because they are always at school getting our education ready for  all of the students.

Te Whare Tapa Wha Covid-19 Isolation Edition

Today for Online Learning, my Inquiry lesson I had to complete a few slides about Te Whare Tapa Wha. We had to provide a brief summary of each Taha and then a image of us giving an example of it. I chose drawing because it is easier. I hope these slides would help you get a better understanding of Te Whare Tapa Wha in each way.
