Why is school important....

Why school is an important facility in our community

During this covid pandemic, lockdown has really made me realise how much I really miss school. I miss my friends, my space, teachers, sports tournaments and engaging learning that keeps me more motivated at school then at home. So I sit and think of ideas why Pt England School is important to me and the people within my community.

School is an important place for us to go to and learn.   It has rooms and people focused on learning.  At home it has been challenging to focus and complete learning because it is crowded and noisy.   At times it is very distracting.   School however has rooms, equipment and people to help focus us on our learning.  We have purpose built classrooms and facilities for us to learn in.

School is also a key place to be prepared for college and our futures.  Here at pt england we learn the aspects and skills that are required for college. We do this by going to Tamaki College which is a nearby school and we take classes every tuesdays and thursdays that involve older subjects. Not only does this give us opportunities to think and work like college students but gives us a slight feel of what college is like.

School is also important for our social development. I know for a fact that having to be in lockdown for a few weeks is definity making us miss our friends and classmates. Lucky for school we get to be around our friends and have time to socialise with other people. This strengths our bonds with our classmates. For example, we learn how to be public within our community by going to special events that involve being with different people such as Manaiakalani Film Festival, Tournaments and much more.

So there you have it , 3 reasons why Pt England School is an important facility in our community. It is an important place for students to learn, a key place to prepare for college and our upcoming future and last but not least to improve our social  skills which is really important in life. How do you think your school is important and why ?

Falefitu Laulu Surprise Visit !

Falefitu Laulu Surprise Visit !

Today we got surprised by Falefitu Tony Laulu, an author who writes relatable and more real books about our islander culture. He came to deliver us some books that our teacher ordered.
He showed us his amazing books about Pasifika culture in particular Samoan. It shows what it really is like in the world now. His amazing books included the English and Samoan versions. The book that I like the most is ' O au o le Samoa ' which is about this boy who thinks he doesn't know much about his culture. The story goes on to expalin that culture is not just about the way you speak - the language, it's the way you represent yourself to others.

He chose the characters to be his own sons which is neat! He thinks that most books now aren’t  about Pasifika Culture and so he wants to show what it's really like for some of us. He had this incredible idea to add in his own family and friends to the story. Some in the names, labels on t-shirts, signs on buildings etc. He also shared what his point of view about what ‘ REPRESENTING ‘ is.

We would like to say a big thank you to Falefitu for coming out all the way to drop of your amazing books that tell some of our Pasifika culture. Pt England School can't wait to read heaps of your books, and we’re all going to enjoy it. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Malo aupito!

Go here to see his books!

Rotuma Information Report

 Rotuma Language Week !

Information Report

Noa ‘ia ! That’s hello in the Rotuman language . My information report today will share with you some important facts about Rotuma .

Rotuma is a small island located  in the Southern hemisphere . Rotuma is surrounded by many other islands, to the North there is Tuvalu, to the East is Samoa, South is Fiji and West is Vanuatu .

Rotuma’s total population is less than 2,000 people . With roughly about 10,000 people living in Fiji . In my opinion I think this is because of the Jobs, schools and space on the island of Rotuma .

The  Main Languages spoken in Rotuma are English and Rotuman . Sadly the spoken languages are listed on the ‘Endangered list of Languages’ which means its slowly disappearing

After learning about the Language of Rotuma, I am now feeling the urge to get up and learn more about MY language and culture. I think it is important as well for others to know how important it is to be in an amazing culture and the heritage it holds . ‘ Never take anything for Granted ‘ .

Activity 3 (Facts):  Tuvalu Language

As it is Tuvalu language week we are celebrating the people, parents, families, the Tuvalu Auckland Community Trust. These are all  people that play important roles in keeping the Tuvaluan language and culture traditions alive. To help then they are guided by these 4 different principles which are..
  1. Olaga kau fakatasi ko te maopoopo ko te malosi ( Unity is togetherness and strength)

SLJ: Activity 2, Romeo and Juliet!

 Spring Learning Journey

Activity 2

Hello there and welcome back to my blog, I hope you are all doing well during your Term 3 Holidays. Almost there everyone! As you all know that it is holidays, of course there is another Learning Journey. During these holidays I'll be blogging and explaining  about the Spring Learning Journey activities almost everyday.A big thanks goes to creators of the Spring Learning Journey as well as the teachers in Team 5 who have encourage students to participate . So sit back and relax while I explain the 2nd activity for the Spring Learning Journey, Wk 1.

Activity 2 (Facts): Romeo and Juliet

Along with the tasks set up for us, they provide fun facts about the people that we are learning about. The person that this activity is about was  a famous author, poet and playwright. He is best known for playing roles amazingly in plays and one of is famous plays is Romeo and Juliet. You've guessed it, it's William Shakespheare.
So before we get into the activity let me share you some more facts about him.
  1. Shakespheare was born on the  26th April 1564
  2. Shakespheare is widely considered the world's best dramatist
  3. He wrote 38 plays and 154 sonnets
  4. He married to Anne Hathaway when he was only 18
  5. Then he had 2 twins, Hamnet and Judith

Shakesprearean English Task

So for this task today I had to learn more about Shakesprearean English. Shakesprearean English is the version of english Shakespheare  used in most of his plays. To practice being like Shakespheare we had to write a small recount of what we did in the morning. Then after that we had to use a translating tool that translates it into Shakesprearean English.

Taha Whanau: NZSL

NZ Sign Language Wk 2020

Kia Ora and welcome back to my blog, this week is New Zealand Sign Language week. The topic that goes with Sign Language is 'Sign language is for everyone!'.
This week is to acknowledge the deaf people and those who help teach them sign language and ways to communicate to others. It is important to never make fun of people who have trouble hearing because they are the tough ones who learn sign language so that they can talk and introduce them to others.

Task Description: Today in our Te Whare Tapa Wha work, I am focusing on Taha Whanau. As it is Sign Language week, for our activity we had to record ourselves introducing our names in NZSL Alphabet /Fingerspelling. Learning NZ sign language helps us make a better connection with friends and whanau who are deaf or hard of hearing. In this video I started off by saying Good Morning and introduced my name by saying My Name is Hannah! This was a really educational and fun activity to do.
