Language Features: Poetry

Poetry: Introduction to poetry

Malo e lelei and welcome back to my blog. In our writing lesson today we were learning about the introduction to poetry. Poems are a way of describing things that makes the reader feel like they are a part of the story. Things like language features are big in Poetry and there are lots of them such as:
  • Similes- a figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind
  • Metaphor- a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.
  • Onomatopoeia- the formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named
  • Rhyme-correspondence of sound between words or the endings of words, especially when these are used at the ends of lines of poetry.
  • Alliteration- the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words.
Hope you enjoyed reading my learning about Poems and Language Features.

Awesome things we did in Lockdown- Pie Graph

Awesome things Room 3 did in Lockdown- Pie Graph

Today for our maths lesson, we had to do a Lockdown Diary and one of the pages told us to write down 5 awesome things we did during Lockdown. As a class we each told our things to the class and then  Mrs Tele'a tallied up the results and now we had to convert it to either a Normal Graph or Pie Graph. Here are the Results of what we did during Lockdown, the popular one was of course Spending Time with Family and that should be on everyone's list because spending time with family is the best thing in the world. The second popular thing was Cooking/Baking food, the third most popular thing was Sleeping in, early, late and resting all the time. What was your 5 favourite things you did during Lockdown?  Hope You Enjoy!

A Game of Cards- New Vocab

A Game of Cards- New Vocab

Mrs Tele'a was reading us a book called 'Pounamu Pounamu' by Witi Ihimaera and one of the chapters were A Game Of Cards. While Mrs Tele'a was reading she was writing new vocab from the book  onto the whiteboard. She was also asking us what they meant it you already knew, after she finished reading the book she told us to make a google drawing of the new vocab we have learnt. The words with the star next to them are the ones I already know, there is also a map of Rongopai Waituhi because that is where the story was placed. Here are the meanings of some new vocab.
  1. Rapidly- Very Fast
  2. Blaring- Very loud, that would make your ears hurt
  3. Weep- Not crying loud but cries very quietly
  4. Flecked- Small dots or parts

Characters: The Game

Task Description: Today in our reading lesson we had to complete a few slides about the characters we read about in one of the articles or stories. My story was The Game by Cassandra Tses, we had to list the characters in the story and pick 1 character and use google drawing to create an image of it. The next thing was that we had to choose a character who has a lot to say and then write what is the most important things they say. For the last task of the slides with a buddy or friends, we had to record yourself having the same conversation from the story using screencastify. My group that I did the screencastify with was Lani, Zoe and I. Here are their blog so that you can check out their work as well. Lani's Blog  Zoe's Blog

Taha Tinana- Fitness & Hygiene

Taha Tinana- Fitness & Hygiene

Our physical bodies need to stay fit and clean.
Our families and homes are where we learn the basic BUT important steps for this

Here are 5 examples of what happens in my family.
  1. My Mum makes sure that my siblings and I sleep early for school the next day so that we have enough sleep and we pay good attention in our school work
  2. My family pushes each other to go for walks, runs and exercises at least 2 times each day
  3. My Aunties and Uncle goes to the gym mostly at night to stay fit and healthy
  4. We have to brush our teeth, brush our hair, dress nicely for school, outings or parties
  5. We all have to shower once we come back from school, from exercises, if we feel stinky or gross. (It is no option of missing showering at least a day per week, you should shower each day of the week to stay clean and healthy)

Grateful- Taha Hinengaro

Grateful- Taha Hinengaro!

Having the action to be grateful  to others is  very important in your everyday life. It means showing or feeling an appreciation for something done or recieved. My mum always taught me and my siblings to be grateful when people gave us gifts for birthday parties and christmas presents, because it's always the thought that counts.
'Start each day with a grateful heart'.

Here are 5 things that I am grateful for today.
  1. The roof over my head
  2. The wonderful and caring family I have and see everyday
  3. My Teacher at school because she teaches our class new stuff each day
  4. The food provided for me on the kitchen table
  5. The amazing best friends I have at school that look out for me everyday when I go to school
Have an attitude of gratitude!
