Task Description :

Greetings everyone, back with another completed maths task which is 'Ordering Integers'! An integar is colloquially defined as a number that can be written without a fractional component. This task was quite challenging, I also had to order negative numbers from smallest to biggest. I also used symbols that shows when a number is bigger or smaller then the other . e.g < & > . ENJOY !

Stem and Leaf Graph

Task Description :

Yup you know it, another maths task completed. This maths task is the Stem and Leaf Graph. For those who dont know Stem and Leaf Graphs is a table used to show data. The 'stem'is shown on the left side of the table that shows the starting digit of a number in this case I used the place value ' Tens ' e.g 68,I put the 6 in the stem coloumn. Now the 'leaf' is the right coloumn that shows the ones or the last digit e.g 68, you put the 8 in the leaf coloumn. Task Description :

Morning Blog Readers, today is Wednesday 17th of Nov also its Teacher's Only Day which means no online meets today ! As its Teacher's Only Day I'll be still blogging my work, as you can see above I've just completed another maths task : Fractions, Decimals and Percentages.

In this task I had to convert fractions to decimals, decimals to fractions ect... This was quite challenging because im not a fan of converting but its all about giving it a go !

' Adding Rational Numbers ' . If you are not familiar with rational numbers , they are numbers that can be expressed as a quotient or fraction. In this task I had to add some decimal numbers, fractions some were whole numbers and some were negative .

This is the Maths Task for Prime and Composite work. In this task we have to work out what factors and multiples are, also prime and composite numbers. This was fun task to do !

Graphics with Ms Ferguson !

 Tech/Graphivs w Ms Ferguson 

Heyy everyone ! Today is Tuesday which means Year 8's have our google meet with our tech teachers from Tamaki. I have Graphics with Ms Ferguson and our lesson today was really fun and creative. Ms Ferguson gave us a little art/drawing lesson about drawing Oblique shapes ( 3D shapes ) , we practised drawing cubes, 3D triangles and even letters of our name. Secondly we practised shading in our 3D shapes, this was reaaly fun. I challenged myself by doing shading in pencil as well as pen, which was quite challenging. Lastly Ms Ferguson taught us how to draw block letters in little boxes using the whole Alphabet,  so creative ! I learnt so much new things which was a bonus, Thank you Ms Ferguson for the amazing lesson !

Task Description :

If you are wondering why I have been blogging a lot of maths tasks this week, heres why .. My maths teacher , Ms Hall challenged our whole maths class. The challenge was who ever can completed all the maths task set for us they can get a chocolate/basket , AMAZING RIGHT ! so dont get to bored on all my Maths work I'll be blogging. Also forgot to mention this is my 2-way probabily table work, this is a graph that organises data about two variables .

Why is school important....

 Why school is an important facility in our community

During this covid pandemic, lockdown has really made me realise how much I really miss school. I miss my friends, my space, teachers, sports tournaments and engaging learning that keeps me more motivated at school then at home. So I sit and think of ideas why Pt England School is important to me and the people within my community.

School is an important place for us to go to and learn.   It has rooms and people focused on learning.  At home it has been challenging to focus and complete learning because it is crowded and noisy.   At times it is very distracting.   School however has rooms, equipment and people to help focus us on our learning.  We have purpose built classrooms and facilities for us to learn in.

School is also a key place to be prepared for college and our futures.  Here at pt england we learn the aspects and skills that are required for college. We do this by going to Tamaki College which is a nearby school and we take classes every tuesdays and thursdays that involve older subjects. Not only does this give us opportunities to think and work like college students but gives us a slight feel of what college is like.

School is also important for our social development. I know for a fact that having to be in lockdown for a few weeks is definity making us miss our friends and classmates. Lucky for school we get to be around our friends and have time to socialise with other people. This strengths our bonds with our classmates. For example, we learn how to be public within our community by going to special events that involve being with different people such as Manaiakalani Film Festival, Tournaments and much more.  

So there you have it , 3 reasons why Pt England School is an important facility in our community. It is an important place for students to learn, a key place to prepare for college and our upcoming future and last but not least to improve our social  skills which is really important in life. Hello and welcome back to my blog! Today was our last literacy rotation with our 3 teachers Miss Hall , Ms Setefano and Ms Tipene. My class was with Ms Setefano and our google meet was a lot of fun. For our warm-up Ms Setefano gave us random words and we had to come up with sentences with it. Then she went through our work that we had to complete and we played an kahoot and I came 1st on the podium.

Talofa and welcome back to my blog ! Today I completed another Tuvalu Literacy Task !! In this task we had to choose a phrases thats used in Tuvalu Language and incooperate out thoughts and understanding of our chosen phrase and make it into a poster. The phrase that I chose as you can see is ' Se ko pati ako faiga! ' in English : ' Actions speaks louder than words! '. I defintely hear this phrase around my house especially coming from my Nana. Here is my understanding of this quote, also here is the other phrases so you can have a better understanding of them  as well.....

Phrases/Introduction in Tuvalu

 

Task description:

Talofa everyone ! This is the 1st task for our literacy this week. I had to translate the english phrases that we would say in our everyday life into Tuvaluan as it is Tuvalu Language Week. I've learnt so much new words that I could start practising around the house to my family members. You can say easy lines like this : 'Talofa, Toku igoa ko Hannah. Ea mai koe ?' I just said 'Hi, My name is Hannah. How are you? Here are some more extra phrases so you can also learn to say... Tofa and Manuia te aso !

Graphics - House Design

Graphics w Ms Ferguson - Designing a House on Tinkercard

Task Description :

Talofa everyone, today we had a tech google meet with a Tamaki graphics teacher Ms Ferguson. Our task was to design a house on this site we use which is called : Tinkcard. This is where we get to create 3D designs to share with everyone so that they can see. By making this design we had to incopperate some skills Ms Ferguson showed us such as Alining, Grouping, Resing, and adding Workplanes into the design. This may all sound diffucult but once you get use to it everything becomes familair. Enjoy my design I made, ( used some inspiration from google & youtube ).

Introduction

Talofa everyone, this week is Tuvalu Language Week ! As we are still in Level 3 lockdown we can still do online learning, and our focus this week is Tuvalu Language. So to celebrate Tuvalu Language Week I'll be posting about the amazing tasks focusing on Tuvalu that our Team 5 teachers set for us. 

 This year's theme for Vaiaso te Gana Tuvalu ( Tuvalu Language Week ) is 'Fakaakoigina tou iloga kae tukeli ke magoi mote ataeao'. In English this translates 'Embracing our culture and a more secure, vibrant future'. The theme highlights the importance role language and cultures has when securing a vibrant future for Tuvaluans across Aotearoa. It enourages language and culture to be embraced to build strong foundations of perseverance, success, and healthy equilty.      

Tuvalu is a small Pasific island nation that lies midway between Australia and Hawaii. Tuvalu means eight islands standing together. The total land area is around 26 square kilometers. The nine islands are: Funafuti, Nanumaga, Nanumea, Niutao, Nui, Niulakita, Nukufetau, Nukulaelae and Vaitupu. These are all the Nine small islands that make up Tuvalu

Kia ora and welcome to today's Te Reo Lesson. We are back into Term 3, which means more rotations on Thursday which defintely include Te Reo Lesson with Ms Tipene. Today's question that we are focusing on is "Ke te pehea koe ?" which translated is "How are you ?". You can respond in many emotions as you can think of, here are some example : Kino ( Bad ), hiamoe ( Sleepy ), riri ( Angry ) ...

Falefitu Laulu Surprise Visit !

Falefitu Laulu Surprise Visit !

Today we got surprised by Falefitu Tony Laulu, an author who writes relatable and more real books about our islander culture. He came to deliver us some books that our teacher ordered. He showed us his amazing books about Pasifika culture in particular Samoan. It shows what it really is like in the world now. His amazing books included the English and Samoan versions. The book that I like the most is ' O au o le Samoa ' which is about this boy who thinks he doesn't know much about his culture. The story goes on to expalin that culture is not just about the way you speak - the language, it's the way you represent yourself to others.

He chose the characters to be his own sons which is neat! He thinks that most books now aren’t  about Pasifika Culture and so he wants to show what it's really like for some of us. He had this incredible idea to add in his own family and friends to the story. Some in the names, labels on t-shirts, signs on buildings etc. He also shared what his point of view about what ‘ REPRESENTING ‘ is.

We would like to say a big thank you to Falefitu for coming out all the way to drop of your amazing books that tell some of our Pasifika culture. Pt England School can't wait to read heaps of your books, and we’re all going to enjoy it. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Malo aupito!
