Kate Sheppard : The Famous Protestor

Kate Shepppard

Intro:
Kate Sheppard was a famous protester who  fought for the rights of women. She was born in 1847 in Liverpool, England but later in life she had to moved to New Zealand with her family. She died at the age of 87 on  13th of July 1934.

1st Paragraph:

Kate Sheppard protested for a reason, she did it because she believed that women should be allowed to play a full role in society. During Kate Sheppard’s time women were not allowed to vote and their rules were very restricted. Some rules that were hold against the women was that they couldn't sell their land/property, need consent from her father or husband to open a bank account and couldn't vote. She fought and fought until she saw the equal treatment the people give to men as well as the women.

2nd Paragraph:

Before the petition, Kate Sheppard did many other things to help with her up-coming women’s rights protest. She travelled throughout New Zealand, holding public meetings and building support for the cause.Kate Sheppard was a great organizer and she began collecting signatures for the petition that was going to be presented at the New Zealand Parliament. Unfortunately the first petition failed in 1891 but this never stop Kate, she got back up, started again and collected more signatures.

3rd Paragraph:

On 1893 on her third try was her third petition. Kate Sheppard convinced a total of 32,000 people. This final petition was very successful which means that women were finally allowed to vote. Without any of these happening NZ women would have never voted at the beginning. Now New Zealand is the first place that women were first to vote.

Conclusion:

In conclusion Kate sheppard has made history for women in New Zealand.

Without the hard work Kate Sheppard did during the petition women would

never have been treated equally. Now women are finally allowed to vote

and do stuff men do. “We are tired of having a ‘sphere’ doled out to us, and

of being told that anything outside that sphere is ‘unwomanly’.”

Why do we need school?

Why do we need school?

Introduction:

Have you ever wondered why students have to go to school everyday? Firstly, school is the place of education and socialisation, there are many countries that have laws that is compulsory for students to attend school.Well, think for a moment while these thoughts run through your head on why school is important to attend to everyday.

Body paragraph 1:

School is a place for students to learn. Learning is the key to unlock the minds of each student so that they can push themselves to do better in their school academics. Without learning the mind can’t do stuff like thinking and working, but with subjects in school it will improve each one of us in different ways of learning which will help us later in life. Learning at school you’ll be able to do many things that link to school academics.

Body paragraph 2:

School helps you to get a great job. Not only does school help you in learning but it also helps you to get the qualification of a job that you seem interested in. For example if you dream about being a doctor later in life you could take the subjects that require to be a doctor like science. Subjects don’t only require to get into jobs but also life choices like learning to be on time, respect the people around you and listening to the person in charge.

Body paragraph 3:

School gives us a chance to socialise with other people. The real reasons why students love coming to school because all their mates are there. Even if your new to the school there are always people that love socialising with you. In school they also practice team building skills so that you can work together as a team. Not only do you work together but you could become friends with your team.

Conclusion:

In conclusion school is really important to have in our society because school could change any life of a student, without it there wouldn’t be any sense in life. School is important because we learn, get a job and socialise.

Language Features: Poetry

Poetry: Introduction to poetry

Malo e lelei and welcome back to my blog. In our writing lesson today we were learning about the introduction to poetry. Poems are a way of describing things that makes the reader feel like they are a part of the story. Things like language features are big in Poetry and there are lots of them such as:
  • Similes- a figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind
  • Metaphor- a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.
  • Onomatopoeia- the formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named
  • Rhyme-correspondence of sound between words or the endings of words, especially when these are used at the ends of lines of poetry.
  • Alliteration- the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words.
Hope you enjoyed reading my learning about Poems and Language Features.

Narrative Writing- Flying Dragons

Out of this world!

It all started in an ordinary town, filled with ordinary people but in that town there lived a young girl named Jessica Jackson. She was an intelligent girl who had brown hair, she wore a pair of blue glasses and a bright yellow shirt and some plain blue jeans. She went to a strange old school called Stonehedge High, she loved going to school but one thing that would make her not go was her worst  enemy Heather Adams. Heather was the school’s popular  and mean girl, she would always wear her golden yellowish  hair in a high ponytail, trendy outfits with  shoes and peachy lip gloss. Everyday Jessica would always try to avoid Heather but she just can’t, Heather would always find a way to make fun of Jessica’s hair, clothes or even shoes, but today at school it got out of hand.

“Detention”, Heather shouted with a stern look across her face.
“Why me?” Questioned Jessica with a puzzled look on her face.
The principal put both girls in detention so they can try to be friends and stop fighting.
“How hard can this be?” Jessica said this with a big sigh.
For detention they had to clean around the school. They both started in the staffroom, but as they cleaned they never said a thing to each other. A few minutes passed and as they were almost finished Heather found something shiny and glimmering.
“What is that?” Wondered Jessica
“Let’s find out”. Suggested Heather
“It must be a way out of detention”. Said Heather.
So they hopped inside the hole and left their cleaning rags on the floor.
“Aaaaaaaaaaaaa” Screamed Jessica, “Someone help me”

Finally the two girls reached the bottom of the shiny hold but find themselves transported to a whole new world.
“What is this place?” Questioned Jessica
“Does it look like  I know” Replied Heather “Okay this was a bad idea let’s go back now”.
Jessica and Heather needed to find a way back home but they seem to have no idea. Just as a second went past out of nowhere a Fire breathing Dragon came out of nowhere and began chasing the two girls, but luckily they were both fast runners. They ran like their lives depended on it (like it is), they found a tiny cottage so they decided to go inside it and hide. The coast was clear, the dragons were gone, they sat down to catch their breath.
“Wow I never knew you were a fast runner Heather” Said Jessica in astonishment
“I guess you don’t know me that well,” Replied Heather.

A few minutes passed and Heather had something to say to Jessica that made Jessica very, very surprised.
“I’m very sorry Jessica for being so mean to you at school”. Said Heather.
“Me too Heather” Replied Jessica
So now the two enemies become best friends and gave each other a big hug but in that moment a glitter shined around them and a whooshing sound came to their ears. They closed their eyes and they opened it to find themselves back at school.
“We’re BACK” They shouted at the same time and then giggled.
How did that happen? They both wondered but they kept their little adventure a secret between them. Jessica found  a new side of Heather that is actually friendly. Which made her remember the moral her aunty always told her
“TO NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER”.
The End

WALT: Use Descriptive language in our writing.

This week in my writing lesson we are still focusing on descriptive language, by reflecting on this
we had to create a small text of writing about SURVIVAL. The type of text could be narrative, diary entry or novel. I chose Diary Entry because it's very creative and I had to act out like I was on Bear Grylls on my first night in the wild forest. This was a very fun and creative  task.

Like Stars In The Sky

This week in writing we are focusing in Poetry and what it is all about. In my                           creative activity I had to create a static image that would be the front cover
for one of the poems we have read. I chose "Like stars In The Sky" By Michele
Meleen because it is all about how friends are like stars in the sky.

Do we need to go to school?

Why do we need school?
By Hannah

Introduction:

A school is an educational institution designed to provide learning spaces and learning environments for the teaching of students (or "pupils") under the direction of teachers.
But the real question here is “Why do we need School?”

Body paragraph 1

Image result for school symbol
School

Firstly, we need school because it gives people the building blocks necessary to do many things: critically analyse, read, perform mathematical functions, write, etc. Without these building blocks people would not understand some of the things necessary in everyday life.

Body paragraph 2:

Secondly, what parents would like their own lazy kid playing video games or watching you-tube all day (I know I wouldn’t) careless parents that is. By having a school all your kids can be out learning new and useful things instead of adding WiFi bills 24/7. With this opportunity for having a school, kids may learn anything and everything.

Body paragraph 3:

Lastly on why we need a school is because being able to make friends is a stepping stone towards confidence and our well being.  Imagine life without school life will be lonely and dull. Yeah, suppose you can make new friends social media….but wouldn’t it be better if you could learn new things at school and making friends along the way. This is why we need a school!

Conclusion:

As you can see the reasons above these are the answers to your question on  “Why do we need SCHOOL?”. Yeah it can be kinda boring (or maybe very boring) but  education is not just about going to school and getting a degree. It’s all about widening your knowledge and absorbing the truth about life.
