Bootcamp by Shanna Fa'aita

Walt:Identify common themes from a range of texts.

Task Description: Today for our Literacy Lesson, we had to silently read a book called Bootcamp by Shanna Fa'aita. This book is about a Uncle named Joey and his niece named Liyah, Uncle Joey struggles a lot through life like his Love Life, Job, Money, Family and House. To cheer him up he goes to bootcamp with his Niece Liyah. But one day when they were about to get Break fast, they bump into a few old mates of Uncle Joey that look very doggy and dark. What would you think would happen after?

Recount: Spaghetti Tower Teamwork Challenge!

Recount WritingSpaghetti Tower Teamwork Challenge

Today Team 5 got back into our Literacy Classes, I'm back in Mrs Stone's Class (So Excited) First in my Literacy class we reflected back on our Norms List and how we get our points (Good) and how we get strikes (Bad). After reflecting on the Mrs Stone gave us a Teamwork Building Challenge which was: with our reading groups we have to make the tallest spaghetti tower using string and tape, once you have done your tower you must be able to balance 1 marshmallow onto it. My reading group is Dahl and in my group is Nina, Aaliyah, Marie, Kauri and Rae Jae. Here is how we made our Spaghetti Tower...

First we divided the spaghetti into small groups so that we can bundle them and tape it together to make the base. Secondly we made more of the bundles of Spaghetti so we can add to it and make it taller. Unfortunately it didn't stand long but we managed to put the marshmallow. The other group won the challenge but other that that I had heaps of fun doing the challenge with my group.

Doing this challenge wasn't all about or winning but it helps us to build our teamwork more and communicating and collaborating all together. I think in our group we really nailed the communicating part.

Immersion Assembly- Term 3 ( A World Of Difference)

Immersion Assembly - Term 3

(A World of Difference)

Malo e lelei everyone and welcome back to Term 3 for school. I'm really happy to come back to school after having an amazing holiday. I'm very excited to see what we will be learning and doing for Term 3, to kick off the term we had to first go into our Immersion Assembly. Immersion Assembly is where the whole school comes together like a normal Assembly but our Teachers come together and make up a play or video which will be telling us what we will be studying, learning and focusing on. The Topic for Term 3 is: A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. Each team from our school presented what they will be doing by their teachers here is what they are doing.

Team 1:

Team 1 will be learning about what kids from all around the world do different from us. What they eat, play, learn and how they get to school. Mrs Hockly from Team 1 also shared to us what A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE is in sign language.
Good Luck Team 1!

Team 2:

Team 2 used the cartoon Dora the Explorer to help with their learning. They will be going on a world tour and explore like Dora different parts of the world.
Have Fun Team 2!

Team 3:

Team 3 also used the series Amazing Race with their learning through landmarks/structures from around the world. I bet they will have a great time learning about different and interesting landmarks.
Happy Learning Team 3!

Team 4:

Team 4 made a wonderful video with all the teachers, they will be learning and looking at different food around the world. They will be figuring out what food comes from where.
Have a great time Team 4!

                             Team 5:

Team 5 (which is my team) will be learning about magical myths and historical legends around the world. To give us a better understanding about Myths and Legends our Team 5 Teachers put on a play about Sina and the Eel. This was about a young lady who always went to the ocean until she met a eel and the eel falls in love with the girl. Sadly the girl doesn't like the eel back so she runs back to her village and tells someone to kill the eel. Such a interesting story.
Enjoy your learning            Team 5!

WLJ: Poster! Activity 5

Winter Learning Journey: Poster
Week 1, Activity 5
Kia ora, Malo e lelei, Talofa Lava, Greetings to all and Welcome back to my blog. Today I'll be blogging to you, the last activity of my Winter learning Journey for WEEK 1. There will be more winter learning journey blog posts next week for WEEK 2, now back to my last WLJ activity for week 1.

Task: Create a poster that shows 3 key quotes you have heard your parents/whanau say since your return to school in level 2. They must be quotes/sayings that you find helpful from your whanau. After that post on your blog with a written explanation for each quote.

Explanation

"Make sure to wash your hands before eating dinner!" by Mum - My mum always uses this quote to me and my siblings before we start eating our dinner because it's helpful for us to remember to stay clean by washing our hands just in case we have any germs and that we don't spread it to others.

"If you feel sick, stay home and don't go to school!" by Nana-
My Nana always uses this quote to my little sister and cousin because they always got the flu or cold some days during school at level 2. So whenever she sees them cough a lot of have a really runny nose, she gives them this ginger medicine drink, puts them back into bed and tells them to stay home. She also does this with me and my other siblings sometimes.

"Sleep early for school!" - Nana and Mum
Both my Nana and Mum tells us these 4 words whenever it's a school night, they don't like us staying up long when it's a school night because they both know that when we sleep late, we won't get enough sleep and that would lead up to us  waking up very late and getting all cranky and tired for school the next day. If they catch us on our electronic devices they usually take it off us and give them back to us the next day.

Winter Learning Journey: BFG

Week 1, Activity 2

Today's Winter Learning Journeys activity is about a famous author named Ronald Dahl but he wasn't just a author he was also a British writer, fighter pilot, spy and inventor. He is also best know because he writes a lot of funny and enjoyable books we all love to read including Charlie & the chocolate factory, Matilda, The Twits, Fantastic Mr Fox and much more. The book today we are focusing on is the BFG (Big Friendly Giant).

What we have to do for part of today's activity is write a character description of the BFG that includes at least 10 descriptive words and a drawn picture of the BFG to go along with the 10 or more words. Hope you enjoy...

Character Description

The BFG is a Big Friendly Giant. He wears long ,green trousers, white baggy shirt and a old, brown sleeveless jacket over it. He also has big, floppy ears and he is a hundred times as tall as a giraffe. He is very old but really is a really great friend to have. He enjoys catching dreams and putting them in kids rooms during night time with his new friend sophie. He has a really bubbly and friendly personality that I think everyone would like, I would love to have a friend like him. Here is my drawing as well..

Sunday Funday- 5/7/20 Holidays!!

SUNDAY 5/7/20- Breakfast, Exercise, Feast, Church, Rest!

It's sunday pink background | Pink quotes, Saturday quotes ...
Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog. Today I'll be telling you what I did today, which is the first Sunday of Term 2's Holidays. I'll be doing a lot of these types of Blog Posts where I tell you what I do on the Holidays, so get ready to read what my family and I get up to on the Holidays. Feel free to also make 1-4 blog posts a week about what you do on the Holidays as well or even try out the Winter Learning Journey which is coming out soon. Now back to what I did today!

It was a normal early morning Sunday, what I first did was wake up, eat breakfast with my Mum, sister (Katherine), brother (Joshua) and Nana. After eating breakfast I went and brushed my teeth, It is really important to brush your teeth everyday in the morning and night. Once I finished brushing my teeth, Katherine, Joshua and I decided to practice our rugby skills on the reserve next to Pt England.

Gilbert Photon Match Rugby Ball | Rugby Pro Supply – RugbyProSupplyFirst we did some running, after that we practiced kicking the Rugby Ball, then passes and lastly more running. To wrap it up, Katherine and I did some shuttles using the Goal Posts, it was kinda hard but we both gave it a go. Doing these sort of stuff with my family is the best thing in the world, we always have a wonderful time, doing the activities we love like sports, cooking or even watching TV. What was your favourite thing you did with your family today near the mornings?

Lu Sipi, 'Ufi lolo'i & Sapasui Tongan Food | Tongan food ...After doing that until 11:40, we walked back home and went for showers because we were about to go to my Mum's Uncle's House because my Mum's cousin has just got married and we were going to have a feed and meet the bride and her family. The feed started at 2:00 but my mum, aunty and Nana already started preparing some Tongan Food for the feed at the House. Tongan Food is the best in the world (Not going to lie), I'm getting hungry again by just thinking about it. There were Puaka (Pig), Taro, Ota'Iki (Raw Fish), Lu Sipi (Lamb, onions wrapped inside taro leaves), Otai (Types of drink where you can add fruits, Coconut, canned pineapple, watermelon and much more). There were a lot of other food as well. SO YUM!!

After the feed, we had to go to church which started at 4:00pm, I went to the Tongan Church with my family. After going to church, we came back home, changed back to normal clothes and just rest and chill at home. We watched some movies together but some of us were still full and bloated from the feast. I enjoyed the whole day together with my family. This was still the first or start of our Holidays and I can't wait on what we do on the next few weeks. I'll make sure to blog it and share you what we do on the next few days of my Holidays. My question for you guys to answer is:
What did you do today?
Who did you do it with?
How much did you enjoy today?
Make sure to comment down below and answer those questions. Thank You so much for reading and hope you enjoyed reading on what I got up to, today. Make sure to also blog on what you did today, comment on other people's blogs, try out the winter learning journey and most importantly enjoy your holidays and help out your parents, grandparents or whoever looks after you at home. Thank You! :)

Happy Holidays Everyone!!

Happy holidays! Please stay safe and... - Redhead Public School ...

Happy Holidays- Term 2

Yay!!! It's that time of year everyone, yup Term 2 Holidays. I'm really happy to finally chill and spend weeks with my family and friends. I would like to appreciate and say a HUGE THANKS to all the teachers who have worked really hard in these 2 terms. We never had Holidays in Term 1 because of Covid and lockdown, but our teachers were there and did google meets with us students and did learning there. There were also some teachers who helped with Bubble School, you teachers really helped a lot with the students that had no one to look after them at home. THANK YOU SO MUCH TEACHERS. Once we came back from Lockdown and came back to school, there were some things that had changed like our classes, we had to be in our maths classes and have our own desks and space, we finished school at 2:30 instead of 3:00 and we had to sanitize more often at school. After weeks of getting use to the changes most things are coming back to normal, like sports, riverside and many other things. The thing that I was glad to come back to school is that we get to see our wonderful teachers in person and our friends, after hard work during Term 1 and 2 we have finally came to our Mid Term Holidays. My Highlight for Term 2 is getting to know our Maths Class a bit more and seeing my friends again after not seeing them during Lockdown. What has been your Highlight of this term? I would like to say to everyone to enjoy their Holidays, stay safe, make sure that your Family or parents know where you go at times, help do the chores at home and lastly stay kind and keep on washing your hands. HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!! :)

Genius Hour- What are the basics of a PIANO!

Malo e lelei, Talofa Lava, Kia Ora and greetings to all, today my class (Room 3) and I had to do speeches about our Genius Hour Topic. Genius Hour is where we do 1 hour of researching a topic, we find interesting, we do this most FRIDAYS. On our first week of Genius Hour, which was near the start of Term 2, we had to brainstorm a few topics on our own that we would like to study about.  On our second week of Genius Hour, we had to finally pick one topic that we had to stay studying about. Some people choose topics like 'How to cook/bake', what their favourite gaming are, musical instruments and much more, I chose learning about Pianos, what they are and the basics of it. Now on our third week we had to find links that relate to our chosen topic, and start researching the about it. For our last week of Genius Hour we had to grab all of our information and put it into a presentation and share it to the class. I was really nervous at first, but during my speech I slowly gained confidence and carried on with my speech, my total score was 20/25. My reflection for Genius Hour is that: I really enjoyed doing 1-2 hours of Genius Hour every week, I have learnt a lot of new things about the Piano and doing Genius Hour really gave me that push to believe in myself and try hard in learning. Genius Hour is a really great source of learning for us, students because it gives us the choice of choosing a Passion of ours, study it and share our learning to everyone. So THANK YOU Mrs Tele'a for giving us Genius Hour every week on fridays. My last comment to you, is to Never Give Up on learning, try hard each and everyday when you are in school, and stay confident and true to yourself, teachers, classmates and in schoolwork. Thank-you for reading and Hope you ENJOYED MY GENIUS HOUR PRESENTATION!
