Falefitu Laulu Surprise Visit !
Falefitu Laulu Surprise Visit !
Today we got surprised by Falefitu Tony Laulu, an author who writes relatable and more real books about our islander culture. He came to deliver us some books that our teacher ordered. He showed us his amazing books about Pasifika culture in particular Samoan. It shows what it really is like in the world now. His amazing books included the English and Samoan versions. The book that I like the most is ' O au o le Samoa ' which is about this boy who thinks he doesn't know much about his culture. The story goes on to expalin that culture is not just about the way you speak - the language, it's the way you represent yourself to others.
He chose the characters to be his own sons which is neat! He thinks that most books now aren’t about Pasifika Culture and so he wants to show what it's really like for some of us. He had this incredible idea to add in his own family and friends to the story. Some in the names, labels on t-shirts, signs on buildings etc. He also shared what his point of view about what ‘ REPRESENTING ‘ is.
We would like to say a big thank you to Falefitu for coming out all the way to drop of your amazing books that tell some of our Pasifika culture. Pt England School can't wait to read heaps of your books, and we’re all going to enjoy it. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Malo aupito!
Go here to see his books!

P.E.S vs Royal Oak !
Friday Rugby Game !
Last week on Friday, the Intermediate girls from Yr 7 & 8 played a friendly game against Royal Oak Intermediate. It was a really fun and a great practise to play rugby before Auckland Champs this Wednesday. Here is how it when….
Friday morning, bright and early I got up. Brushed my teeth, did my hair and changed into my shool uniform. The night before I organised my rugby equipment like my mouthguard, rugby boots and black shorts. 8:15 I started walking to school, with a happy and excited smile across my face knowing that I get to finally play Rugby again.
At school we just finished our whole school assembly and we had FIOP ( Finish it off properly ) work to do. Before I knew it, it was already Morning Tea time. Once Morning Tea playtime has finished, our team coach Ms Timmi can and got us to change into our rugby shirts, once we were all in the breezeway and dressed up we split into two buses which were from Tamaki College and departed to our game in Royal Oak Intermediate.
Now we were really here, a student from Royal Oak guided us to where the Changing rooms are so we can put our boots on. Not long after that we ran outside to where the fields were and started warming up, 30 minutes later and kickoff as started. Here we go..
We were loosing in the first half, the girls in Royal Oak Inter kept getting back to back tries and we were slowly using hope. Once 1st half finished and we had a 5 minute break before 2nd half started. We were all exhausted and tired but Ms Timmi told us to ‘Keep going, and to never give up !’

Kate Sheppard : The Famous Protestor
Kate Shepppard
Intro:1st Paragraph:
Kate Sheppard protested for a reason, she did it because she believed that women should be allowed to play a full role in society. During Kate Sheppard’s time women were not allowed to vote and their rules were very restricted. Some rules that were hold against the women was that they couldn't sell their land/property, need consent from her father or husband to open a bank account and couldn't vote. She fought and fought until she saw the equal treatment the people give to men as well as the women.
2nd Paragraph:
Before the petition, Kate Sheppard did many other things to help with her up-coming women’s rights protest. She travelled throughout New Zealand, holding public meetings and building support for the cause.Kate Sheppard was a great organizer and she began collecting signatures for the petition that was going to be presented at the New Zealand Parliament. Unfortunately the first petition failed in 1891 but this never stop Kate, she got back up, started again and collected more signatures.
3rd Paragraph:
On 1893 on her third try was her third petition. Kate Sheppard convinced a total of 32,000 people. This final petition was very successful which means that women were finally allowed to vote. Without any of these happening NZ women would have never voted at the beginning. Now New Zealand is the first place that women were first to vote.
Conclusion:
In conclusion Kate sheppard has made history for women in New Zealand.
Without the hard work Kate Sheppard did during the petition women would
never have been treated equally. Now women are finally allowed to vote
and do stuff men do. “We are tired of having a ‘sphere’ doled out to us, and
of being told that anything outside that sphere is ‘unwomanly’.”
- Kater Sheppard.
